What your bets cost

House edge is the average share of each bet the casino keeps. In a short session your real result can land far from it.

Every roll so far

The dashed line is how often each total should come up.

What each bet costs

Cost is the house edge: dollars the casino keeps on average per $100 resolved. Free odds are the only bet with no edge, and you can only take them behind a line or Come bet.

How craps works

  • One player rolls two dice (the shooter). Everyone bets on the same roll.
  • Come-out roll: a 7 or 11 wins the Pass Line. A 2, 3 or 12 loses it. Any other number becomes the point.
  • With a point on, the shooter keeps rolling. Roll the point again and the Pass Line wins. Roll a 7 first (a "seven out") and it loses.
  • Don't Pass is the opposite, except a 12 on the come-out is a push.
  • Odds go behind a line bet after a point. They pay true odds, so the casino has no edge on them.
  • Come and Don't Come work like Pass and Don't Pass, starting a fresh bet on the next roll.
  • Place and Buy bets pick a number to roll before a 7. Place pays a little less than true odds. Buy pays true odds but charges a 5% fee on what you win. Each number takes one or the other, and the little switch on each number's box picks which. They start as Buy on 4, 5, 9 and 10 and Place on 6 and 8.
  • Press adds what a Place or Buy bet just won back onto the same bet. It raises what you can win next time and what you lose on a 7. The house edge stays the same.
  • The stickman is the casino worker with the long hooked stick. He calls each roll and gathers the dice with it for the next shooter. Here he comes out after every 7: the dice stay where they land for the roll, then he draws them over and sets them back in the middle.
  • Setting the dice is the little ritual players do before they throw. Drag either die to move it, and tap it to turn it to the next number (Shift-click or right-click turns it back). Push the two dice into each other to pick them both up: a wall slides in on the right, and a flick toward it throws them (let go gently to set them down instead). It is all for show: the roll is always two fresh random dice, whatever you set or however you throw.
  • Bets on / off (top right of the dice) is for the come-out roll. Place, Buy and hardway bets, and the odds on Come bets, are normally off then: they cannot win or lose that roll, and a small OFF marker shows on them. Switch it on to have them work on the come-out too, which means a 7 takes them. Once a point is set, they all work either way.
  • Keep same bets out puts back the bets that came down on the last roll (a Pass Line win, a Field loss). Switch it off to rebuild the table yourself each roll.
